The retaining wall, somewhat grandiloquently called “Promenade” or in local parlance “Promonade”, had and still has several functions: it holds the embankment (the current Heroes’ Square), which is over the main road and is pierced with cellars, and it is the site of the memorial to the victims of World War I and II in Dömös (the memorial of the World War II. The column of the World War II memorial was originally the pedestal of the National Flag), and the gate-like driveway is a memorial to the mutilation of Hungary in Trianon and the 1938-1939 land repossessions, and currently houses a plaque briefly recounting the history of Dömös.
