The Hungarian Museum of Water Management, commonly known as the Danube Museum, was founded in 1973, and its monuments preserve objects and documents of museum value related to Hungarian water management. The exhibition won the Hungarian Exhibition of the Year Award in 2020 and the prestigious international European Museum of the Year Award in 2021. The new Water Museum, which opened in 2019, presents the past and present of water management, water-related innovations, illustrates the use of the power of water, deals with the regulation of rivers, displays nautical curiosities and ship models, the history of bathing, Lake Balaton, mineral waters and the history of soda water, among other things. In the Visitors’ Library, the exhibits are presented in the classic exhibition methods and practices, but because of the amount of information they contain, some of them are not displayed on the shelves but through a peep-hole resembling a binocular telescope.
