Szõgyén offers traditional Highland hospitality and a world of rural life still alive. Visitors can immerse themselves in the memories of the pre-Carboniferous era and the traditions of the past century. All these artefacts are housed in the Archaeological Museum and the Country House. In the municipality, great emphasis is placed on the preservation of old traditions and customs and the preservation of national culture. The village’s strudel with cottage cheese and oven-baked tarts are legendary and can be sampled during the festivities. A major landmark of Szõgyén is the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the centre of the village in a baroque style, imposing in size and decoration. The commitment of the people of Szõgyén to art is shown by the renovation of the former village hall to create the Szõgyén Contemporary Gallery, where nearly 500 works of art from the International Artists’ Camp, which has been held since 1999, can be seen. The annual Pató Pál Days are a major event in the cultural life of the village.
