Nyergesújfalu

Situated at the foot of the Gerecse Mountains, the village and its region have all the potential to become a popular destination for hikers: wonderful natural values – nearby forests, mountains, birdwatching, caves and the Danube – as well as active activities await visitors. Nyergesújfalu was inhabited in the Bronze Age thanks to its varied geographical environment, and during the Roman Empire it was part of the Limes, a military camp called Crumerum. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town became an important place of Hungarian intellectual life thanks to the villa of the painter Károly Kernstok, which can now be seen again in its former splendour. Thanks to industrial production, the town has developed into a well-developed and constantly enriching small town, with a charming cellar, a Danube landscape, hiking trails, beautiful hills, cycle paths, fishing lakes, a country house and traditional events. In recent years, Nyergesújfalu has also become a centre for quality accommodation and gastronomy.
