Short presentation Most of our tour takes us along the Nagymaros section of the National Blue Trail, through the Templom Valley and the St. Michael Mountains to the Hegyes-tető, the highest point of the mountain range around which the Danube circles. Originally built by Encian tourists, the lookout was recently renovated by the Ipoly Forest Ltd. Another unrivalled view is from the clearing of the Köves meadow, from where you can see Visegrád and the citadel over the Danube.

ROUTES AND ROAD SIGNS TO FOLLOW

Blue lane (National Blue Trail) to the lookout, then further to the Köves field (immediately after the lookout we recommend an unmarked section, longer but less steep). Turn right at Köves field and the Blue Cross leads down to Nagymaros.

Signs are supplemented at some junctions by direction signs with distance/time information.

VARIATIONS OF THE TOUR

• After the lookout, follow the blue lane and continue along a shorter but steeper path.
• After the lookout, follow the yellow lane down to Zebegény (3 km), from where you can take the train back to Nagymaros-Visegrád.
• From St. Michaels saddle, you can detour to the Hermit Caves by following the Blue Cave (omega) sign. This is a very steep, slippery path with a considerable difference in level (1.7 km in one direction, 200 m descent).
• From Nagymaros, you can also take the Yellow Square then Yellow Bar signpost to the St. Michael’s Cave, passing the summit of St. Michael’s Hill (4 km). The section around the summit is steep and rocky.
