The National Flag and Heroes’ Memorial of Zebegény, built in the 1930s on the basis of Géza Maróti’s designs, stands on the Calvary Hill overlooking the village of Börzsön, from where you can enjoy a picturesque panorama of the Danube bend. The architect and industrialist Géza Maróti designed the “National Flag” and the “Heroes’ Mounds” on the Kálvária hill above Zebegény so that the whole ensemble (the “Memorial of National Tragedies”) could be seen from several kilometres away on the Danube. However, for various reasons, it was not fully completed and even its inauguration was delayed. In 1996, a plaque was placed on one of the pillars to commemorate the Trianon Peace Treaty, and the restoration of the complex began, and since the turn of the millennium it has once again been used as a Trianon memorial.
