The round rotunda was probably built between the end of the 10th and the beginning of the 12th century. The archaeological excavations of 1962-63, together with a preliminary research on the history of art, showed that the entire structure of the rotunda was built of brick, the base being of dressed stone, in places crushed, held together by mortar here and there, but in most places dry-stacked. Inside there are 12 niches and an apse formed by the thickness of the walls. The niches contain 13th century wall paintings of apostles and fragments of later layers of paintings. The excavation revealed medieval cemetery tombs next to the rotunda.
