The area of the former earthwork castle is now occupied by the village and its agricultural areas, but the triple rampart system is still recognisable: the inner line is of course quite worn, but several sections of the outermost rampart stand a good ten metres high – the most preserved part has a small shrine and chapel of St Mary, the former built inside the rampart and the latter in the ditch that borders it from the outside. The ramparts rest on the Garam (the river and the steeply sloping bank to the east were the defensive line) and the area bounded by the innermost line is roughly the size of a classical Ispanese earthwork. According to István Bóna, the fortifications were built after the middle of the 10th century and lasted barely a century, having been abandoned in the second half of the 11th century, while Slovak archaeologists believe that the fortifications remained in use until the mid-12th century.
