The Lourdes Chapel - Ister-Granum

The Lourdes Chapel

Kravany nad/Dunajom (Karva)

Several noble families settled in the village. Among them the Hrosso family. One of their descendants has repeatedly mentioned a chapel that stood near their mansion. As it turned out later, it was not a chapel but a cave of Lourdes. They applied to build the chapel: Nadácia Orange, Šanca pre Vᚠregión 2011. The chapel, designed by Tamás Smidt, was finally built with the help of the Karva Consolidated Vocational School, Korekt s.r.o. and its managing director László Nyers, Juvis s.r.o. Nitra and its managing director Roman Kubica, Czibor Zoltán s.r.o. Komárno and its managing director Zoltán Czibor. The roof structure was made by Róbert Smidt from Svodín and his father Ferenc Smidt. Thanks to a grant from the Ministry of National Resources, the chapel was completely finished. The three reliefs inside were also made by Róbert Smidt. The interior is designed with simplicity in mind: pilgrims are greeted by a plaque at the entrance, with a kneeling altar, a sign of miraculous healings and portraits of Pope Pius IX and Pope John Paul II. The chapel is open to the public, but you can ask for the key from the staff at the town hall, next to the main square. The building is also part of a travelling exhibition of new and renovated sacred sites in the V4 countries. Only five buildings from Slovakia were included in 2013. One of these is the Chapel of Lourdes in Kravany nad Dunajom.
