The village, which is made up of two parts, is situated between the hills of the Garamment hills. Written records from the 13th century record the villages of Sarkány and Gyiva, which were merged in the 20th century to form a single settlement under the local name of Sárkányfalva. Both the Paris Brook and the Dragon Brook flow through the village, and there is a small lake in the centre. Its Catholic church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was built in the neoclassical style and is located in a well-ordered cemetery, famous for its 18th century red marble tombstones – also known as the cemetery museum. The former Boronkay Mansion, a neoclassical mansion – also known as the Dragon Mansion – is now a hotel. It formerly had a 15-acre English garden and a valuable orchard. Today, its restored fence and gates are an interesting attraction. In Gyiva there is a wooden bell tower.
