Pastovce (Ipolypásztó)

Archaeological finds dating back to the 5-2 millennia BC have been found in the immediate vicinity of the Ipoly River. According to the first written record, dating back to the 12th century, King St. Laszlo donated the village to his sister Sofia. In the Middle Ages, the present Reformed church belonged to the Premonstratensian order and its abbey. The village has established a memorial house to its famous native, Zsigmond Zalabai, a leading writer and literary historian of the Highlands. For lovers of natural treasures, we recommend a visit to the Farkas Valley, a gorge about 300m long and 30m deep with prehistoric fossils. Fishing lovers are also well catered for in Ipolypásztó, where the fishing pond is a popular recreational spot.
