Visegrád

Visegrad has always been a focus of interest throughout history, due to its favourable location and key strategic role. Nowadays, visitors come here mainly for its natural beauty and historical monuments: with its magnificent panorama, its famous citadel, its jousting shows, its bobsleigh track and its water activities, this small town on the right bank of the Danube is an unmissable experience. The Citadel, situated at the highest point of the town, offers a fantastic view and is home to several exciting exhibitions, mainly about the Middle Ages. Visitors to Visegrád should not miss the historic legendary Solomon’s Tower, the beautiful Visegrád Royal Palace and the 500-year-old Renaissance palace garden. The Visegrád International Palace Games are famous far and wide, and their jousting tournaments are a guaranteed event every weekend of the year in the Palace House or in the courtyard of the Lower Castle, by popular demand. Visegrád is also the starting point for many hiking trails: many people walk up to the Zsitvay Lookout, admire the Apátkúti Valley or go on an adventure on the Mogyoróhegy nature trail, for example. An easier walk might be to visit the Kaán spring or the trout ponds – the latter where you can even catch your own lunch! The proximity of the Danube also offers visitors a unique opportunity: in addition to cruises and SUP tours, the double sunset programme is a real curiosity: taking advantage of the Danube bend, you can admire the picturesque sunset twice in one evening. Visegrád is attractive for tourists in winter and summer alike, with a wide range of attractions, services and accommodation.
