Mogyorósbánya

Mogyorósbánya is a charming little village on the eastern side of Gerecse. From the top of the rock opposite, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramas of the Gerecse, with the Danube bend in the distance, the Börzsöny forest massif towering above it, and the Helembai mountain range directly on the shore, with the dome of the Esztergom Basilica as a backdrop. The route of the Kinizsi Százas (Hundred of Kinizsi) and the National Blue Hiking Tour also passes through the settlement. Mining, as in so many settlements in the region, has helped the development of the village: in 1825, coal was discovered on the outskirts of the village, and several clay and limestone quarries were opened here. Today, there are only monuments to this, as well as a special attraction for tourists in boots, the “Miners’ Circle”, an instant tour.
