Dorog

Dorog’s name used to be synonymous with mining, the relics of which can still be found in the town. It is worth visiting the Reimann Mining History Universe, where the history of the Dorog Basin spanning more than 220 years is revealed through a unique world of models, interactive elements and unique architectural solutions. Since the closure of the last mine (2003), the image of the town and its region has changed, offering tourists a wide range of hiking and recreational opportunities. The Palatinus Lake is a favourite bathing spot not only for locals but also for those from Budapest: the artificial mine on the border of Dorog and Esztergom is one of the cleanest lakes in Hungary, where you can swim, fish, dive and kayak. Its plastic ski slope, Nipl Stefánia’s swimming pool, the Mária cave, which has been declared a shrine, and the National Blue Hiking Trail are also waiting for visitors with various needs.
