Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Kravany nad/Dunajom (Karva)

The Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1232 in late Romanesque style. The church fell into disrepair during the Turkish wars and the Order uprisings, and was only restored to its Baroque state around 1712 by Count Ferenc Gyulay, and then again in 1936. The nave was originally covered with a beam roof, according to the records of canonical visitations. The church was consecrated to St. Lawrence and only after the Baroque renovation was it dedicated to its present patron saint. West of the church, on its axis, stands a wooden belfry, originally 18th century, rebuilt in 1926.
