Búč (Búcs)

The village was once a settlement of the conquering Hungarians, and its name is derived from the leader Bulcsú. The border of Búcs is gentle, hilly, gently sloping hills, gradually descending towards the Danube. Its natural features are exceptional: on its southern edge there is an extremely valuable natural area, the Búcsi szikest, which the locals named Hortobágy because of its character, resembling the world-famous Hungarian wilderness – its unique fauna and flora are worth visiting. The settlement’s buildings and monuments are worth a walk: the tourist is accompanied along the way by the characteristic long-fronted houses with porches, the protected churches and the two churches of Búcs; but on the way, a visit to the House of Dolls in Folk Costume, where the folk costumes of the Highland villages are on display, and the belfry in St. Stephen’s Park with the statues of King Stephen and the Holy Crown, among others, is a must. After our history-rich tour, it’s worth taking in the transformation of an industrial monument and resting at the guest inn in the former mill of the Jókai and Szalai families.
