Kesztölc

Kesztölc

One of the most beautiful mountain ranges of the Pilis Mountains stretches above Kesztölc: the Two-Branch Mountain with its dazzling white limestone cliffs and spectacular panoramic circular route dazzles visitors. The village, famous for its vineyards, is also home to the beautifully kept Pálos Medicinal and Herb Garden. According to tradition, Blessed Elisabeth of Esztergom origin founded the Palatine monastic order around 1250 with hermits living in the forests of the Pilis – he built the first monastery of the new order in Klastrompusztá, near Kesztölch, and after his death it was here that he was laid to rest. Today, walking among the almost 800-year-old monasteries under the cliffs, you are struck by a strange sensation: a mixture of romanticism, mysticism and picturesque scenery, and the memory of one of the most important monuments of our medieval history.
