Tinnye

Tinnye, a village in Pest County, is one of the most beautiful villages in the area, located 35 km from Budapest, in the valley of the Békás stream. The site of the settlement was inhabited in ancient times, and finds from the area indicate that it was inhabited in Roman, occupation, Árpád and Turkish times. Among the attractions, the first to be mentioned is the only natural lake in the area, which is located in a Natura 2000 nature reserve in a beautiful natural setting at the foot of the Pilis Mountains. The Garancsi lake is a very popular place for hikers, and in less than half an hour you can walk around it on a trail that tells its history and its fauna. But it’s not the only place where the film The Roaring Tiger was filmed, and the buffet car left on the shore of the lake has since become a tourist attraction and is still in operation. The sculptor Ferenc Monostori brought his knowledge with him when he moved to Tinnye: his sand sculptures of historical greats have also attracted more interest in the town, and his famous works can now be seen in several towns. The settlement is a popular place for hiking: the Dévényi Antal lookout (Jenga tower), the Epöli rock, or the stops of the National Blue Tour in Cholnok are easily accessible.
