Bajót

Bajót

Bajót and its surroundings have been inhabited since ancient times, as the archaeological finds here testify. Prehistoric remains, including many rare and interesting relics of prehistoric culture – finely carved stone and bone tools – have been found in the Jankovich Cave, a huge rock face in the eastern part of the village, in the Old Stone. Climbing up the stairway next to the cave, from the top of the Old Stone, you can see the Gete, the meandering Danube and the Esztergom Basilica in the distance. Péliföldszentkereszt is an ancient pilgrimage site and today the Salesians are active in the monastery and its buildings. Visitors can also experience the special charm of the place at the Gerecse Nature Park Visitor Centre, which offers a guided tour of the natural values and the protection of creation. In this special natural environment, a world of silence, tranquillity and faith takes centre stage, counterbalancing today’s hectic world.
