ROUTES AND ROAD SIGNS TO FOLLOW

Blue lane (National Blue Trail) to the rest area under the Old Stone, from where the Blue Cave (omega) sign leads up to the caves.

Returning to the rest area, continue on the Blue lane, then join the Green Cross sign from the right and follow the Blue lane for a short stretch. At the junction, turn right into the green lane, which joins the green lane and the pilgrim paths at a fork in the field; these continue back to Péliföldszentkereszt.

Along the route, direction signs at most forks show directions and distances.

VARIATIONS OF THE TOUR

  • The route can be shortened into a simple, pleasant forest and field walk by skipping the Old Stone direction. To do this, follow the blue sign after the Sanctuary and when you reach the green cross sign, turn right (total 4.6 km)
  • A longer hike can be made to the Mogyorósbánya Rock (lookout point) by following the blue lane to the Mogyorósbánya saddle, from where the Blue Cross (and the blue triangle at the end of the Blue Cross) leads to the lookout point.
  • Returning along the same route to the saddle, you will reach the green lane sign leading back to Péliföldszentkereszt (the hike is 10 km in total).
  • There are plans to build and restore the section of the trail from the Jankovich cave to the top of the Old Stone and the viewpoint at the top. At the moment, it is only accessible to experienced hikers at their own risk, in dry weather and with adequate preparation. The area is protected and the terrain is dangerous. The summit of the Old Stone can be reached from the other side of the mountain (from Bajót) by following the Green Triangle sign on a relatively well-maintained path.
  • From the Old Stone rest area, take the Blue Square sign to Bajót, where bus services are more frequent than from Péliföldszentkereszt.
