A tidal wave on the Ipoly River in 2000 completely destroyed the connecting bridge. The construction of the new bridge between Helemba and Ipolydamásd started in April 2021, and the missing link on the lower part of the Ipoly is scheduled to be completed in early 2023. The road border bridge between Ipolydamásd and Helemba is being built with the support of the European Union in the framework of cross-border cooperation. The road bridge, which also serves as a border crossing, will have two lanes and a cycle lane. The existence of the cycle lane is important because the development of the cycle path network in the area will also be implemented, connecting the Hungarian and Slovakian sides of the Ipoly river.
