The Christian Museum in Esztergom is the richest ecclesiastical collection in Hungary, preserving the relics of several centuries in Europe and Hungary. With its collection of Hungarian, Italian, German-Alpine, German and Austrian paintings, it is known as the third largest collection of painting in the country, closely followed by the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest and the Hungarian National Gallery. The Christian Museum’s collection also stands out for its versatility. In addition to the works of late medieval art, including Tamás Kolozsvári’s Calvary Altarpiece, the Garamszentbenedek Urchot and the Passion paintings of Master MS, the collection of modern painting is significant, as are the extremely rich collection of applied arts and the graphic art collection of more than 5,000 sheets. The permanent exhibition of the Christian Museum can be seen on the second floor of the Primate’s Palace.
