Pilisszentlélek

The first monasteries of our only Hungarian monastic order, the Palatines, were built in and around the Pilis, on the hillside above Pilisszentlélek, in the second half of the 13th century, with the support of King László IV (Kun). However, the remains of the foundations and the 5-6 m high southern wall of the nave, which can be seen today, are parts of a church and monastery complex built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The monks abandoned the monastery after the Battle of Mohács, and it has been in ruins ever since. In the second half of the 1980s, the ruins were conserved and only the foundations of the building remain.
