The church, which has seen many vicissitudes, was originally built in the Romanesque style in the first half of the 13th century. It was rebuilt after various tragedies – lightning, fires, explosions – and has been given its present form with different stylistic features. The late Baroque interior was excavated in the 20th century and the original building stones and Romanesque windows were found, the size of which reflects the former nobility of the church. These 800-year-old stones are on display in an exhibition area inside the church.
