The Iron Gate is a 404-metre-high mountain peak, the lowest member of the Maróti Hills, located east of the old town of Esztergom. The mountain has a great influence on the image of the city, as it has created a small town with narrow streets in the small area between the Iron Gate and the Danube. The hilltop is a popular hiking destination. This is also due to the fact that it is easily accessible by car, with an asphalt road leading from the city centre to the Iron Gate, from where you can see the whole town, the Garam estuary and the Danube canyon, and in clear weather all the way to the Mohr nuclear power plant.
