Peace memorial at Žitava

Radvan nad Dunajom (Dunaradvány)

The park and the monument commemorate the 1606 peace treaty between the German-Roman Emperor, the Hungarian and Czech kings and the Ottoman Sultan. The monument was erected to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the peace treaty, on the site where the old oak tree under which the treaty was made, according to folklore, still stood in the 1940s. At the time of the peace treaty, the river Žitava was still flowing in the Danube, but due to modern river regulations, the Žitava now flows into the Nitra 20 km upstream.
