Esztergom

Esztergom, the first capital of Hungary, the cradle of the Hungarian state and the Hungarian church, is located in the western gateway of the Danube bend, in the embrace of the Pilis and Visegrád Hills. Founded in 973, Esztergom’s main sights are the 100-metre-high Main Cathedral (Esztergom Basilica) and the royal castle on Castle Hill. The museums and exhibitions in these buildings tell the story of many important periods of Hungarian history, as well as the history of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in the Cathedral. Esztergom is a treasure trove of history, architecture, museums, baths, promenades, shops and shops that can be explored over several days. The most spectacular sights include the Víziváros, the Királyváros (downtown), the St. Thomas Hill, the Prímás Island, the Maria Valeria Bridge or the Búbánat Valley.
