Kamenica nad Hronom (Garamkövesd)

Kamenica nad Hronom (Garamkövesd)

Located on the left bank of the Garam River, it is a must for nature lovers. The Kovácspataki hills, part of the Burda Mountains, with their unique flora and fauna and 5 viewpoints, will sweep even the most well-travelled tourists off their feet. The panorama is unforgettable: the Danube line below, the Visegrád Hills in front, but also a perfect view of Esztergom. The confluence of the Danube and Garam rivers, which has long attracted water sports enthusiasts, is also a beautiful natural attraction about 2 km from the village. The 19th century boom in wine-growing is best illustrated by the cellars, made up of hundreds of press houses, including cellars made of andesite bricks, unique in the region. István Gyurcsó, the famous Hungarian poet from Slovakia, is a famous native of the village, and his memorial statue and resting place are also in Garamkövesd. The beautiful Roman Catholic church of Garamkövesd welcomes worshippers in the centre of the village.
