Mužla (Muzsla)

The area, bordered by the Danube plain and the Muzla hills, is an area of excellent natural resources and is home to many different types of agriculture. The best known are viticulture and winegrowing. The Muzsla vineyard has nearly 300 cosy and tidy cellars. During the annual Muzsla Wine Tour, the vineyard is filled with hikers, wine lovers, picnickers and tourists who come to admire the beauty of the landscape and the panorama. Written sources first mention the village in 1156, but the history of the area dates back to the Neolithic period, a few millennia earlier. This is evidenced by archaeological sites on the outskirts of the village. In the centre of the village stands the prestigious Church of the Assumption and the stately building of the János Endrõdy Primary School. The cultural life of the village is rich, with several traditional groups who are at the forefront in preserving and presenting folk costumes, folk songs and customs. Muzsla is home to the Chenkei steppe, which is famous for its rare plant species and has unique natural values.
