Sikenička (Kisgyarmat) - Ister-Granum

Sikenička (Kisgyarmat)

Sikenička (Kisgyarmat)

Located in the valley of the Szikince stream, the village is accessed by winding roads with little traffic, which offer a particularly great experience for open-top driving enthusiasts. It’s well worth taking a long stroll through the peaceful village, which is full of sacred sites and friendly locals who are happy to tell you all about their traditions. The village is famous far and wide for its folk costumes. Many say that the best of the Garam Valley short skirt costumes come from here. At the summer festival of Szikince, you can admire both the costumes and the unique treasures of folk tradition and folk song. The border of the village is also the border of historical counties (Esztergom, Hont, Bars), and the Three Mounds monument, erected by Hungarian scouts before World War II, is a reminder of this fact. Hikers are recommended to climb up to the lookout tower above the row of wine cellars, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and carefully cultivated fields.
