The quiet downtown of the town, situated at the foot of the Börzsöny mountains, directly on the Danube, has several interesting buildings. The baroque church named after St. László dominates the beautifully designed main square. Not far from it, on the banks of the Danube, is the former Luczenbacher Castle, which is under renovation and closed to the public. Also in the opposite direction from the church is the Börzsöny Museum, where you can learn about the wildlife, history and artefacts of the Börzsöny with an excellent guide. The Mayor’s Office has a well-kept park and a beautiful building that used to be a girls’ school. The once imposing Calvary Chapel has lost much of its former splendour, but the magnificent panorama makes it worth a visit. Active excursion lovers will also find something for everyone here, with water tours on the Danube and the Ipoly, cycling trips on the Ipoly or the Danube cycle paths, and a trip on the Transbörzsöny railway.
