By train up the valley - on foot back over the mountain The starting point of the hike - the Nagybörzsöny small railway station - can be reached on foot (1 km) from the centre of Nagybörzsöny, where you can take a bus from Szob. Parking is possible in the centre or at the train station.

ROUTES AND ROAD SIGNS TO FOLLOW

The way up is by train. From the Nagyirtás small railway station, follow the Yellow Cross sign towards Tolmács Hill and Hosszú-Bérc, all the way to Nagybörzsöny.

If you would walk all the way, follow the yellow bar sign uphill to Kisirtás, where you should turn to the red cross.

VARIATIONS OF THE TOUR

• A slightly longer hike can be made by starting from the blue cross instead of the yellow cross sign, passing the top of the Great Koppány to the Koppány saddle. From there, you can take the blue or the red cross to the right to Nagybörzsöny (8.3 or 9.5 km).
• At Nagyirtás you can detour to the St. Orbán inn and from there climb the Nagy-Sas hill (detour 2 km one way, follow the green cross, green bar and green triangle signs, in that order; back along the same route)
• You can also get to Nagyirtáspuszta from Szob or Márianosztra by small train, and do the same on foot to Nagybörzsöny.
