Gastronomic adventures in the Danube Ben The Ister-Granum region offers a wealth of culinary opportunities. Let’s explore our region and discover the world of gastronomy. Our little guide will help you discover the region’s gastronomy, its diversity and its outstanding uniqueness. Let’s go on an adventure! I. Gastronomic tour – Börzsöny and surroundings Our culinary adventure offers a taste of the gastronomic offerings of Nagymaros (HU), Zebegény (HU), Szob (HU), Chľaba (SK) and Ipolydamásd (HU). If it’s Saturday, then it’s a local produce and farmers’ market in Nagymaros, in the beautiful surroundings of the Main Square! Often the best way to get to know a village is at the market, because it is almost certain that the people who live there go there, so you can not only meet home cooks of all ages and backgrounds, but also get an idea of what food is eaten in the area. The Nagymaros Farmers’ Market brings together the farmers of the Börzsöny region, the original producers of the Danube bend. The market sells only foodstuffs that come directly from local producers in the surrounding villages. At the Nagymaros farmers’ market you will find farmhouse dairy products, home-made smoked meats, jams, organic fruit juices, real local honey, eggs, freshly baked cakes and pastries. It’s worth a visit even if you’re just looking for a nice stroll on a Saturday morning. Nagymaros Farmers’ Market If you get hungry during the day, you have several options, as Nagymaros can cater for practically all possible dining needs due to the diversity of its restaurants. The “Halas” (address: Nagymaros, Hungary, 2626) is located not far from the Nagymaros ferry terminal. The hack made here is famous far and wide, and the official cycle path runs alongside it, so many people stop here for a break or cycle here on purpose. HALAS restaurant Not far from Halas, PIKNIK Manufaktúra (Nagymaros, Hunyadi ut. 2, 2626) opened a few years ago, a relaxed, youthful atmosphere. The beautiful panorama is guaranteed here, and it’s a place for kids and dogs! Also, as it is located on the banks of the Danube next to a playground, it is a popular destination for families. PIKNIK Manufaktúra restaurant For those with a sweet tooth, Sakura Confectionery (2626 Nagymaros, Magyar út 11. +36 27 630 442,) will offer a wide range of handcrafted ice creams and cakes, including sugar-free, dairy-free and paleo versions.
